How the comparison works
Each pack's size is converted into a common base unit — grams, millilitres or pieces — so packs sold in different units can be compared at all. A 500 g pouch and a 1.2 kg box become 500 and 1200, and the price per base unit falls straight out.
Why prices are quoted per 100
Per-gram prices are all tiny and look identical: ₹0.24 against ₹0.21 is hard to read at a glance. Quoting per 100 g or 100 ml matches how shelf labels do it and makes the gap obvious. Counted items are quoted each, because "per 100 eggs" helps nobody.
Details that matter
- Families are kept separate. Comparing grams against millilitres is meaningless, so switching family converts every row to a unit that belongs to it.
- A tie is reported as a tie. Two packs at the same unit price are not "0% cheaper" — the calculator says they cost the same.
- Incomplete rows are ignored, not treated as free. A pack with no price yet is left out of the comparison rather than winning it.
Watch out for
Bigger is not automatically cheaper — multi-buy packs are often priced above the unit rate of the single item, which is exactly the sort of thing this tool exposes. Also check drained weight on tinned goods and whether a "family pack" is genuinely larger or just taller packaging.
